A muscle relaxant, not a filler.

Neuromodulators are the same class of medicine: a purified protein that temporarily quiets the signal between a nerve and a muscle. Where the muscle stops contracting as hard, the skin above it stops creasing as hard, and the line softens.

That mechanism is why it works on some lines and not others. Lines that appear when you make an expression respond well. Lines that sit there when your face is completely still are usually volume loss or sun damage, and a neuromodulator will not touch them. Filler, resurfacing or a peel is the honest answer for those, and you will be told so at the consult rather than sold a syringe.

How quickly treatment starts and how it spreads through tissue depends on the formulation and the area. Which approach is used is a clinical decision based on the muscle pattern and how you have responded before, not a menu choice.

Whether this is the right treatment for you.

Worth booking if

  • Lines that show up when you frown, squint or raise your eyebrows
  • You want movement preserved and would rather start low
  • You have had a heavy result elsewhere and want a more restrained approach
  • You are comfortable with a result that needs maintaining a few times a year

Probably not if

  • Deep static lines that are there when your face is at rest
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis
  • You want a permanent result, which no neuromodulator provides

What happens in the room.

  1. We look at your face moving

You will be asked to frown, raise your brows and squint. The pattern of how your muscles actually pull decides where units go. Injecting to a diagram rather than to a face is how people end up with a dropped brow.

  2. The injections

A series of small injections with a fine needle. Most people describe it as a quick pinch. No numbing is usually needed, and the whole thing is over in a few minutes.

  3. Afterward

Stay upright for a few hours, skip the gym until tomorrow, and leave the area alone. You can wear makeup and go back to work immediately. A two week check is offered so anything asymmetric can be adjusted.

Risks and what we tell every patient.

Wrinkle relaxers are clinician-administered medicines. They are appropriate only after a licensed clinician reviews your medical history, and they are not dispensed on request.

Common effects are temporary: small bruises at the injection sites, mild headache for a day or two, and tenderness. These resolve on their own.

Less common effects include a temporarily drooped eyelid or brow, or an uneven result. These are dose and placement dependent, they are not permanent, and they wear off as the product does.

Serious effects are rare but real. The effects of neuromodulator treatment can spread beyond the injection site, causing swallowing or breathing difficulty. Seek medical attention immediately if you have trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing after treatment.

Tell your clinician about every medication and supplement you take, and about any previous reaction to a neuromodulator product. Treatment is not given during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Neuromodulators and wrinkle relaxers questions.

Will I look frozen?
Not unless you ask to be. The default here is conservative dosing that keeps expression, with the option to add more at a two week check. Adding units is easy. Waiting out a heavy result takes months.
How long before I see anything?
Most people notice softening between day four and day seven, and the full effect settles by about two weeks. That is why the follow-up is scheduled where it is.
How long does it last?
Typically three to four months. Metabolism, dose and how strong the muscle is all move that number. People who treat consistently often find the interval stretches over time.
Does it hurt?
A brief pinch per injection. Most patients do not need numbing. If you are needle-averse, say so and ice or topical numbing can be used.
Will the same plan fit every face?
No. Onset, spread, and dose depend on the area and how you have responded before. Your clinician chooses the approach from that history, not from a product menu.
Can I combine it with filler or a device treatment?
Often, yes, and combining is frequently what makes a result look natural rather than obviously treated. Sequencing matters, so the plan gets built at the consult.
What should I avoid beforehand?
If it is medically safe for you, avoiding alcohol and blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil for a couple of days reduces bruising. Never stop a prescribed blood thinner without asking the prescriber.
Is there any downtime?
None in the sense of needing to hide. You may have small red dots for twenty minutes and occasionally a small bruise. Makeup is fine right away.
What does it cost?
Pricing depends on the areas treated and how much product they need, so it is quoted at the consult before anything is injected. Financing is available through Cherry.

Start lower than you think you need.

A consult costs you twenty minutes and tells you whether a neuromodulator is even the right tool for the lines bothering you.
